Measuring Success In a God-Kind Of Way

Updated: Oct 9

Success (noun): The achievement of an aim or purpose. From Oxford Languages

Success, according to the beautiful Maya Angelou. "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it."

So then, with various definitions of the word "Success," one would ponder, what is true "Success" according to God?

First, enter into God's rest. Close your eyes, pray, or even just be still and listen.

What is it that God has told you, that is for you, about your life?

That's it! God-Success is God's Will for your life and the gift that he blessed you with before you were even born. It's your natural gift that you can do with your eyes closed and not think twice about it.

Then, once you understand what God's will is for your life and your gift, the second part to that is praying to God and walking with God to obtain it. You don't hustle and bustle and strive for it. You pray, listen, obey, rest in him, and joyfully work towards it.

Remember that we are the "Salt," and meant to shine our light. We cannot do this if the worries of working toward success is the thing that is written all over our face.

Strive means to: "struggle or fight vigorously." From Oxford Languages. Or, "to devote serious effort or energy 2 : to struggle in opposition." From merriam-webster.com

That is not what God intends for us at all, (struggle, fight, serious effort or energy)! Sounds like actions of a person that does not trust in God, nor the plans that God has for their life.

Recently durning online church service, Joel Olsteen said something so simple, yet so profound. He said, "God wants us to abide not strive."

The word Abide means: "accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation)." From Oxford Languages.

Also, the biblical meaning of "Abide" according to merriam-webster.com is: : to bear patiently : to endure without yielding : to wait for : AWAITI will abide the coming of my lord.— Alfred Tennyson : to accept without objection 1: to remain stable or fixed in a state a love that abided with him all his days 2: to continue in a place : SOJOURN will, abide in the house of the Lord

: to conform to abide by the rules

Lastly, according to the bible, John 15:7 AMP says, "7/ If you remain (abide) in Me and My words remain (abide) in you [that is, if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.

So in conclusion, success is abiding (remaining) in God while you walk out your purpose (your) gift. Also, enjoying yourself along the way because God has already said in his word to "ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you." There is no need then, to strive as the world teaches us to do.

With such great news, here are 3 Bliss Tips to "abide" in God on your Journey towards success.

  1. Realize that everyone's definition of success will be and look different. You may already be successful in your own right. You may be a good parent, accomplished a degree, and working in your ideal career. Success could even look like a nice, small yet cozy, comfy, and cute 1 bedroom apartment, with your bills paid, food provided, all of your needs met, and your family feeling love and content. Therefore, do not compare!

  2. Pray and ask God to direct you in anything that you want to achieve. Then listen to what he says and do it in the way that he tells you. Most times our path becomes long and hard because we did not take the time to Stop-Pray-Listen & Obey the first time.

  3. Pray and ask God to help you to be happy and content right where you are while you abide in him and work towards the next best thing that you want to achieve. Find joy in everything that you do and give everything else to God. AND, once you give it to God, Do-Not-Pick-It Back up. lol xoxo
